CPSC 430 Software Engineering

About

Greetings, UMW Bloggers! We’re JEBB Enterprises. We’re new here, but we kind of like the place, and you’ll be seeing a bit more of us this semester.

We at JEBB Enterprises would like to introduce ourselves and give all of you an idea of what you can expect from us in the coming weeks. We are a quartet of Computer Science students in Dr. Polack’s CPSC 430 class, Software Engineering. Each of us brings his or her own skills, experiences, and viewpoints to the mix. Over the course of the semester, J.E. will be working on an actual software design project, provided by another member of the UMW faculty, in order to learn, albeit on a small scale, the trials and tribulations of creating software from the ground up based upon a client’s desires. This is much easier said than done, but we are ready to rise to whatever challenges our project throws at us. You will be able to keep track of the whole process via this blog over the course of the semester.

Now that you know a little about J.E., you might want to know a bit about our project. We’ve elected to work on a project submitted by Professor George Meadows of UMW’s Education Department. This project aims to provide Professor Meadows with useful tools for instructing local fifth-graders in the use of Lego Mindstorms robotics sets. In particular, J.E. will work towards programming demonstration modules - the programs which tell Mindstorms robots what to do - for each of the various sensors included in the Mindstorms sets. Along with these modules, J.E. will provide a manual that describes how each module works.

That’s it for now. Be sure to check back for further updates on the status of JEBB Enterprises and the Lego Mindstorms project.
